Differences

We have so many different ways to be wonderful humans! Some of us have different skin color or hair color, some of us are tall and others are short, and some people are called "neurotypical," while others have what is known as an intellectual or developmental disability.

  • > Do you know a classmate or neighbor who is different than you are?
  • > Maybe like Trevor, in his unusual behavior?
  • > Or do you know someone who has a disability? How is this person treated at school? How do you treat this person?

Bullying

An incident on the playground in Chapter 17 winds up with Trevor going to the nurse's office with a bloody nose.

  • > Have you ever experienced bullying, like Trevor?
  • > What did you do to try to stop it?
  • > Have you ever seen someone being bullied? Ryan defends his friend Trevor. What did you do?

Lists

Trevor makes lists to remind himself of things he never wants to do again.

  • > Do you make lists?
  • > Would making a list help you to remember things?
  • > What would be on your list?

Pets

Trevor has two wonderful pets, Siegfried the Basset Hound and Malcolm the Woof-Kitty. Pets need to be fed and have fresh water every day. Dogs need to be walked, even when it's cold or rainy.

  • > Do you have a pet? What is your pet's name?
  • > Do you help take care of the pet?
  • > How do you feel when you're around the pet (when your kitty purrs, maybe)?
